Your robot
My robot won't connect or stand up.
Switch the robot off, wait 5 seconds, switch it on and wait 20 seconds after its legs wiggle. Then reload growbot.dev on the paired phone. Still nothing? In GrowBot open Brain → Settings and tap Reconnect (or Pair). Took him somewhere new? On the phone that did the build's pairing scan, open Brain → Settings, tap robot somewhere new? and follow the steps. Don't see it? Email me. If your router shows two network names (one ending in 5G), use the one without 5G.
The legs keep wiggling over and over.
That's the batteries running low. When they dip, the board restarts and does its start-up wiggle again. Put in four fresh or fully charged AAs, all the same kind.
The legs aren't centering or act strange.
Redo the leg trim on the robot's phone, in the browser GrowBot lives in. Take the phone off the robot first. Open step 07 of the build guide, tap Connect, lay the robot face down and tap Hold legs up, then − or + until both legs point straight up. Tap Save and reload GrowBot. No need to pair again. Still odd? Email info@growbot.dev with a short video and I'll help.
How do I test the legs or try a walk on their own?
This is optional. You can test your build without waking GrowBot using the calibration area: with the robot switched on, open growbot.dev/tester on a phone. On the robot's phone the pairing code is already filled in. Connect, then tap Calibrate & test to check each leg is connected and moving, and try a test walk.
GrowBot and the app
Will my phone work?
Open growbot.dev/check on the phone that will ride the robot. It takes about a minute and tests his voice, ears, eyes and balance on that phone.
I opened GrowBot and he doesn't remember me.
He lives in the browser you first woke him in, on that one phone. There are no accounts, so a different browser or phone meets a brand new GrowBot. Yours is still safe in the first one. Open that browser yourself and type growbot.dev (links inside email or social apps open a different browser). Tip: bookmark growbot.dev in that browser so you always land in the right place.
Can I run him on my own AI, or offline?
You can give him your own brain: paste your own OpenRouter key, or point him at a model running on your own computer (here's how). Both are in Brain → Settings → your own key. He still needs the internet, because the app itself runs on growbot.dev.
How do I back up my GrowBot?
His memories and who he is live in one soul file. In GrowBot tap Brain → Settings → soul → save the file and keep it somewhere safe. To bring him back on any phone, open growbot.dev/move and pick the file (or tap bring one in on that same screen). That replaces the GrowBot on that phone, so save its file first.
How do I move GrowBot to a new phone?
No body yet? On the old phone tap Brain → Settings → move me and save his soul file (and make the one time code, which carries his adoption and credits if he has them). On the new phone open growbot.dev/move and pick the file. Then enter the code under Credits.
Have a body? Do the same, then pair the new phone with it. On the old phone, Brain → Settings shows "paired with gb-…": that's the robot's pairing code. On the new phone, tap Pair there and type it in. Then redo the leg trim on the new phone (step 07, phone off the robot), because the trim stays on the old phone.
